South and South-East Asia Regional Workshop in Bangkok (Thailand)

South and South-East Asia Regional Workshop in Bangkok (Thailand) 23-25 January 2013

07/01/13 The fourth thinktank workshop on capacity enhancement in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation brings together practitioners and policy makers from South and southeast Asia to define best practices and gaps in capacity development in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. This workshop will be hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Energy Security and Water Resources Section.

CATALYST Report on Capacity Development for DRR is now available

30/11/12 The CATALYST Report on Capacity Development for Disaster Risk Reduction is now available for download. This report has been prepared as a foundation document to support discussions in the Think Tank process. It provides descriptions of the main themes, definitions and the most recent and relevant references associated with capacity development in DRR/CCA. It provides the basis for the development of key project outputs including regionally focused Best Practice Papers and a Best Practice Policy Notebook. more...

Sustainability is the agenda for peace and development in the century ahead. Building resilience through personal safety and disaster risk reduction is essential for this more sustainable future. These are the conclusions of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio this year. The Rio+20 Outcome Document calls also for integrating a gender perspective into the design and implementation of all disaster reduction policy.
